Stormwater Best Management Practice (BMP) Handbooks / Portal

The California Stormwater Best Management Practice Handbooks have provided excellent guidance to the stormwater community since their publication by the Stormwater Quality Task Force (SWQTF) in 1993. The SWQTF became the California Stormwater Quality Association (CASQA) in 2002 and in 2003 CASQA published an updated and expanded set of four BMP Handbooks - Construction, Industrial, Municipal, and New Development and Redevelopment.

2009 Construction BMP Handbook / Portal
In late 2009, CASQA posted an updated version of one of the four Handbooks – the Construction BMP Handbook – as a web-based Portal, designed to replace the 2003 Construction BMP Handbook effective July 1, 2010. CASQA developed the new 2009 CASQA Construction BMP Handbook / Portal to complement the new State Construction General Permit (Order No. 2009-0009-DWQ), which took effect July 1, 2010. As of July 2010, CASQA no longer makes available and does not support the 2003 CASQA Construction BMP Handbook. The new 2009 version also reflects a switch from a paper-based handbook format to an interactive web portal format. Therefore, CASQA is not commercially printing the new 2009 version of the Construction Handbook / Portal. Together with the Industrial, Municipal, and New Development Handbooks, the Construction BMP Handbook / Portal reflects the current practices, standards, and significant amount of knowledge gained since the early 90s about the effectiveness of BMPs. The California Stormwater Quality Association (CASQA) is an independent advisory group. The statements, views, and contents of this site do not necessarily reflect those of the State Water Resources Control Board or the Regional Water Quality Control Boards.
